A couple weeks ago Graham and I went on a Ghost Tour. The Auld Reekie Terror Tour to be exact. It was pretty creepy and when the guide was talking about witches he said that one of us was a witch and then he pointed at me and said “WITCH!” and made me come stand up on these steps while everyone accused me of being a witch. Just my luck. Apparently I was seen dancing naked in the woods and I made some guy’s hair fall out (on separate occasions). It’s pretty weird to have a group of people yelling, “Witch, witch burn the witch” at you. Then the guide was talking about how they would nail an accused witch’s thumbs to her knees and throw her into the water. If you float you’re a witch. So I had to stand there with my hands on my knees while he talked. Then I had to put my hands over my head and pretend to be burned at the stake. He said I had to let out a blood curdling scream. My first attempt wasn’t blood curdling enough so I had to do it again. I don’t know why I get picked for those things. Graham thought it was pretty funny though.
Then we went in this underground tunnel which I guess used to be above ground but they built buildings over it. The tunnel was pretty creepy and the guide told some scary stories about how you can hear this ghost called “The Watcher” walking down the tunnel sometimes. We didn’t hear him. He took us in this room that a coven of Wiccans had recently tried to use as a kind of temple but they thought it was too evil. There was a circle of rocks that they put in the center of the room and the guide said to listen to the story about the rocks first before deciding to go inside the circle. He said that the leader of the Wiccan group spent the night there and that the circle of rocks was supposed to protect anything inside the circle. He said the guy got attacked by some spirit/demon and he trapped it inside the circle. He said that the group of Wiccans will not go inside that room. Then the guide asked if anyone wanted to stand inside the circle and Graham volunteered himself since he doesn’t believe in such nonsense. Then the guide started talking about how they taped an episode of Most Haunted Live (ridiculous show) in the tunnel and in that room, the mic operator was standing inside the circle and he got deep scratches on his back and had to leave in an ambulance and have stitches. The guide said they came back months later and he saw the same guy and he showed him the scars he still had from the stitches. I’m not sure if I believe that though since Most Haunted Live is obviously fake. Luckily Graham survived and didn’t get scratched or possessed (I think).
Next we went into a room that is supposed to have poltergeist activity in it. He made the guys go on one side of the room and girls on the other. He told a story about the room and he turned the flashlight off when he was talking so the dark kind of presses in on you. That’s probably why people feel creepy in there. He said women have gotten scratched on the face and stuff. My face kind of got all hot but it was probably from being nervous. The tour ended in “Scotland’s Most Haunted Pub” where we got a free drink.
The next night, we went to Mary King’s Close. It’s like an underground street. It used to be street level but they built over the top of it. It sounds like Edinburgh was a really filthy city back then. Most of the people who lived on that street had the plague and they were quarantined in there. When they built over the top of the buildings, they made all of the people who were still alive move out. It’s strange to be in an underground street. Apparently the place is supposed to be haunted but they won’t let you go in the room that’s supposed to have a lot of activity. Supposedly people get pushed and stuff. The guy who lived there was forced out. He didn’t want to leave even after they paved over the roof.
The next night we went on another ghost tour. This was a Mercat tour. The guide was a pretty good story teller but it wasn’t as creepy as the Auld Reekie tour. We went in underground vaults and he told a couple stories but I didn’t get much of a creepy feeling. When it was over we went into a dark room and had some wine while he told more stories. It was fun but I still liked the other one better. I think we are going to try to go to more of those type of tours. Hey they’re free so why not?
The weekend before last was very rainy. On Saturday we went to Our Dynamic Earth. It’s kind of a science center where you go “back in time” and see how things formed and you go through the ocean, the rainforest, etc.. Then you end up in the future. It was ok but if it wasn’t free then I would have felt kind of gipped. On Sunday we tried to catch a train to Deep Sea World but it was a little too late.
Tonight I’m uploading the photos and video for this post and making a new blog about the last weekend. No excuses!

Dancing naked in the woods, eh? How very SCANDALOUS of you!
